Following the announcement of the Cancer Reform Strategy, the NHS National Cancer Action Team (CAT) has been working on the development of the Cancer Commissioning Toolkit (CCT) alongside a Cancer Commissioning Guide.
The CCT brings together information on cancer in an accessible and usable way to enable the benchmarking of services and to inform the commissioning process.
The CCT has been developed by the CAT in association with the Pharmaceutical Oncology Initiative Partnership (POIP). The POIP is a partnership between the CAT and a group of pharmaceutical companies who research, develop and supply innovative cancer medicines. The POIP was set up in 2005 to identify opportunities to collaborate on projects to benefit cancer patients by improving access to cancer medicines. Previous work by the POIP includes the Chemotherapy Planning Oncology Resource Tool (C-PORT). The CAT and the POIP selected the management consulting firm A.T. Kearney to assist with the design, scope and functionality of the CCT. The analytics and tool development company Concentra were selected by the CAT to detail the design, develop, and ensure the successful roll-out of the web-based Toolkit
