Welcome to the Cancer Equalities Portal

This portal brings together a range of equality metrics, with the aim of informing action to tackle inequalities and measuring progress towards this. The portal has been launched to support the NCEI's report Reducing cancer inequality: evidence, progress and making it happen. An annex summarising the evidence on cancer inequalities in England, prepared by NCIN to support this report, is available separately.

The data are presented as a series of interactive maps and can be displayed either by cancer type or equality group using the buttons below.

Help with using the interactive maps and understanding how the data are presented is available, together with notes providing further information on the data sources and coverage.

Although this portal aims to inform action to reduce inequalities, it does not contain sufficient information to do this on its own; there are gaps in what we know about inequalities and the measures presented here generally show the results of inequalities rather than their causes. However, these data should be sufficient to target more detailed investigations at a local level, either of inequalities that are particularly relevant to an area or of those shown to exist at a national level.

First time user of the Equalities portal?

The equalities portal contains a range of different measurements. Clicking on a measurement will display notes to explain the data shown, give extra information and provide links to further details.

If you select your PCT from the list above, the data for that area will be displayed. You can change your selection using the UK map once the portal has loaded.
