National Cancer Survivorship Initiative

The National Cancer Survivorship Initiative is a partnership between the Department of Health and Macmillan Cancer Support. Following the Cancer Reform Strategy's commitment to improve patients' experience of living with and beyond cancer, the initiative has been established to consider a range of approaches to survivorship care and how these can be best tailored to meet individual patients' needs.

In addition to a range of reports on cancer survival, Thames Cancer Registry, working on behalf of NCIN and Macmillan Cancer Support has prepared a report on one and five year cancer prevalance in the English cancer networks. In autumn 2009, this work will be extended to provide five, ten and twenty year prevalence for a larger number of sites for the UK and UK Cancer networks as at Dec 2006

As well as informing the Survivorship Initiative as a whole, NCIN expects to provide particular support to the late effects and research workstreams.
