The NCIN is part of the National Cancer Research Network (NCRI) and is funded by the NHS and NCRI partners.

Initiated by the National Cancer Research Institute, and identified as a key deliverable within the NHS Cancer Reform Strategy for England, the NCIN is leading in the “cancer data pathway”, from collection, through to linkage and information delivery.

 

The NCIN is being developed through a small central NCIN Coordinating Team based within the NCRI in London

 

The NCIN Core Objectives are:

 

- Promoting efficient and effective data collection throughout the cancer journey

- Providing a common national repository for cancer datasets
- Producing expert analyses, to monitor patterns of cancer care
- Exploiting information to drive improvements in cancer care and clinical outcomes

- Enabling use of cancer information to support audit and research programmes

 

300,000 new cases - 150,000 cancer deaths - 2 million cancer survivors - 10% of 65+ are cancer survivors - number survivors increasing by 3.2% each year (Excluding non-melanoma skin cancer, C44)
